BREWER and FARMINGTON, Conn. – Phyllis Evelyn (Hamm) LaPointe, formerly of Farmington, Conn., died peacefully Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2013, at a Bangor hospital.
She lived most of her life in Farmington, Conn., marrying her high school sweetheart, Robert “Boe” LaPointe, in 1952. They celebrated 60 years of marriage in October. She worked for 29 years in the Farmington school system, until her retirement in 1994. In 2001 they moved to Maine to be near their children.
She was predeceased by her parents, Rose M. and Alvah L. Hamm. Surviving in addition to her loving husband, Robert J., are her children, James R. LaPointe of Rangeley, Susan R. LaPointe of Newport and Cheryl “Cherie” Roy and her husband, Rob, of Holden; a brother, Peter Hamm and his wife, Meri, of Utah; one sister-in-law, Lea Maloy of Connecticut; three grandchildren, Carol Rose, Beth Ann and Robert; many nieces and nephews. The family thanks her special caregivers at Westgate Manor and the caring and compassionate doctors and nurses during her final days at Eastern Maine Medical Center.
Relatives and friends are welcome to call 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 31, at the Brewer Chapel of Brookings-Smith, 55 South Main St., Brewer. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 1, at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 531 North Main St., Brewer. Interment will be in the spring.
