SOMERVILLE, Maine — Officials have recovered a body from rubble after a Lincoln County house and barn were destroyed by fire, according to officials.
Police believe the the body is that of Cecil Brann, 92, who lived alone in the house, according to a news release from Maine Department of Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland.
Firefighters in Somerville had trouble with water freezing in Thursday’s subzero temperatures, according to the release.
“We’re on top of a knoll, and with the temperatures we have out here and the wind that’s blowing, it’s brutal for people and equipment,” Sgt. Ken Grimes, an investigator with the State Fire Marshal’s Office, told the Central Maine Morning Sentinel.
The body was found in the kitchen of the Crummett Mountain Road house at approximately 9 p.m., the release stated. The fire was reported at 3:30 p.m. by a neighbor who spotted smoke.
