CALAIS, Maine — Calais police this week confiscated guns, cash and drugs, and arrested two men in separate cases.

Glenn Carter, 25, of Charlotte was arrested Thursday and charged with possession of scheduled drugs after police responded to a 12:50 p.m. call about a driver passed out at the wheel of a car stopped in a travel lane on North Street.

Sgt. Christopher Donahue said Friday that a search of the car turned up small bags of what was thought to be heroin, some prescription drugs and a usable amount of marijuana. As of Friday morning, the amount of heroin seized was still being determined, Donahue said.

In a separate case Wednesday, Donahue said, Calais police executed a search warrant at 8:30 a.m. at a residence at 78 Monroe St., which led to the seizure of more than a pound of marijuana, two shotguns, a rifle, a handgun and a safe. After obtaining another warrant, the safe was opened and found to contain a “substantial” amount of cash and the marijuana that was seized.

Arrested on a charge of unlawful trafficking of scheduled drugs was Christopher Dow, 21, of Calais, who lived at the Monroe Street address.

Also charged at the scene with possession of a usable amount of marijuana was Jenna Hicks, 22, of Calais, who was summoned, but not arrested.

Donahue said Friday both Carter and Dow are being held at the Washington County Jail in Machias.

Calais police were assisted in both arrests by the U.S. Border Patrol, Donahue said.
