LUBEC – Robert E. “Bobby” Stafford, 71, died Jan. 21, 2013, at a Bangor hospital. He was born Dec. 21, 1941, in Lubec, son of the late William and Jessie (Parker) Stafford.
He was a graduate of Lubec High School and a proud veteran serving in the U.S. Army. He went on to attend Southern Maine Technical College, Portland, where he gained the skills to proudly work for 46 years at Woodland LCC Pulp, Baileyville. He was a hard worker, and loved the time spent working with the guys at the mill. He was a member of Stuart-Green Post No. 65 American Legion, Lubec. When he was not working, he especially loved his time spent with children and grandchildren.
He is survived by and will be greatly missed by a son, Gary Wayne Stafford; and a daughter, Bobbi-Jo Varney, both of Lubec; grandchildren, Aaron Stafford and wife, Jennifer, stationed in Hinesville, Ga., currently serving in the U.S. Army in Afghanistan, and Mallory Varney of Lubec; great-grandchildren, Kennedy Stafford and Lillyana Jessie Varney; many cousins and friends to include special friends, Brian and Felicia Newman, and all the “gang” at Randy Hall’s garage. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a grandson, Tyler Varney; and a sister, Joann Stafford. He will also be missed by his cat, Fannie.
Memorial services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 31, at Christian Temple Church, Main Street, Lubec, with Pastor Dan Fritschle officiating. A reception will be afterward at the American Legion, Lubec. In keeping with his love for animals, in lieu of flowers, those who wish may make donations in his memory to PAWS, P.O.
