BANGOR – Dorothy (Howard) “Dot” Thomas, 94, beloved wife of Philip B. Thomas, M.D., passed away peacefully Jan. 22, 2013, at their home, surrounded by loving family. Dot was born Aug. 9, 1918, in Waterville, to Alton and Vera (Lewis) Howard.
Upon the early death of her parents she moved to Monson and was raised by her aunt and uncle, Lillian and Amos Knight. She graduated from Monson Academy and Shaw Business College, Portland. She was a member of Junior League of Bangor and an active member of Penobscot Medical Auxiliary. Dot loved to dance, was a wonderful cook and was always up for a great hand of bridge. She loved the outdoors, especially fly-fishing at Big Lyford Pond, and spending summers at the family camp on Beech Hill Pond.
She is survived by her loving husband of 72 years; along with two sons, John and his partner, Sarabel Hieronymus, of Bangor and Owen and his wife, Deborah, of Otis; a daughter, Sue of Bangor; and former daughter-in-law, Joyce Lundgren Willette. Dot was a fun and loving grandmother to seven grandchildren, Jennifer, Matthew, Michelle, Aaron, Megan, Kathryn and Sean; and 15 great-grandchildren.
A private service and interment will be at Mount Hope Cemetery, Bangor. Those who wish to remember Dot in a special way may make gifts in her memory to Bangor Humane Society, 693 Mount Hope Ave., Bangor, ME 04401. A service of Brookings-Smith, Bangor.
