AUGUSTA, Maine — BitSec Global Forensics, a local cybersecurity firm, announced on Wednesday it is merging with a Virginia-based company.

As of Wednesday, BitSec will operate as a division of Vienna, Va.-based Network Designs Inc., according to a media release. Details of the acquisition were not disclosed.

BitSec, which provides cybersecurity training and consulting services to government and corporate clients, has collaborated with Network Designs for the past six years on the latter’s work with the State Department’s Global Anti-Terrorism Assistance Program, according to the release.

“This has allowed us to work very closely with their executive management and to recognize that both companies have common corporate standards, ethics and values,” Michael Webber, BitSec’s founder and senior vice president, said in a statement. “We think the merger will bring considerable value to both BitSec and NDi clients in both commercial and government markets.”

Webber said he was “very excited about the merger,” and that it would allow BitSec to expand its services throughout New England.
