Knowing all about travel

If there’s one thing Dee-Anne McDonald loves to do, it’s to send vacationers to Mexico.

That’s because it’s not only the travel agent’s favorite destination, but Mexico offers tremendous bang for the buck.

McDonald owns All About Travel, located at the Centre Mall since the business opened in 1996. The cozy office offers clients a space to dream or to make travel plans stress-free.

And the process starts with a no-cost consultation.

Travellers should have a budget in mind, McDonald said, as well as an idea of where they want to go, what they want to do, and the ages and interests of the people going on the trip. Once those pieces are identified, McDonald or a member of her team develops a vacation tailored to the traveller.

“We’re a full service agency,” she said. “We can book individual pieces, such as airfare, hotels, vacation packages, or cruises, or develop a travel package.”

Travel packages include transportation, hotel, food, and much more based on individual wants and needs.

“Once you tell me what you need, I can point you in the right direction,” she said.

McDonald shares the 849 Stillwater Ave. office with Donna Demmons, another licensed travel agent, as well as two part-time agents. Before becoming a travel agent, McDonald worked for an airline. Demmons, who intended to become a teacher, fell in love with the career path at a college career fair.

All About Travel offers its clients the opportunity to finance their vacations by putting them on “layaway.” A $150-per-person deposit is made, and the traveller makes monthly payments until the full amount has been paid 35-45 days before the vacation.

“The fact that we can send someone to a place they’ve always wanted to go makes this a very upbeat business,” McDonald said. “[Our clients] are usually happy about where they are going.”

As agents, McDonald and Demmons go to many locations that they recommend to their clients. “Our experience makes us assets [to our clients],” McDonald said. That experience also includes offering advice to travellers about everything from customs information to how to best navigate a given airport.
