SOUTH PORTLAND and BANGOR — Spectrum Medical Group, a physician-owned, multispecialty practice with more than 150 board-certified physicians, recently announced that Neurology Associates of Eastern Maine has become part of the organization.

“The partnership between our organizations provides great opportunities and helps ensure that adults and children in eastern, northern and central Maine continue to have access to high-quality neurological care,“ David Landry, Spectrum Medical Group’s chief executive officer, said in a recent press release.

When Neurology Associates made the decision to merge with a larger entity in 2012, officials said it was important to the organization to find a partner organization that not only would enhance its ability to provide quality patient care, but also respect its history and organizational culture.

“With Spectrum, we gain the advantages associated with being part of a larger multispecialty practice, but also can retain our identity and obtain added support in achieving our key objectives, such as improving access to neurology care in rural areas of Maine,” said Dr. Sally Kirkpatrick, managing director of Spectrum’s newly formed neurology division.

Through shared expenses and improved efficiencies achieved through being part of Spectrum, Neurology Associates of Eastern Maine has the opportunity to focus on improving access and quality while reducing costs.

The practice consists of eight board-certified neurologists and will continue to be affiliated with Eastern Maine Medical Center, St. Joseph Hospital, Maine Coast Memorial Hospital and Sebasticook Valley Hospital.
