Passenger dies from injuries in Palermo crash with tractor-trailer

PORTLAND, Maine — The passenger in a Jeep that crashed head-on with a tractor-trailer on Wednesday has died, according to police.

Dean Camacho, 27, of Waterville died overnight at Maine Medical Center in Portland, according to a news release from Stephen McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety.

The Jeep’s driver, Christian Arsenault, 23, of China, is in critical condition at the same hospital.

While roads were slick on Wednesday, leading to many accidents around the state, police say speed, not weather, was to blame for the accident.

Around 5:45 a.m., the Jeep crossed the centerline and went into the path of a truck driven by George Ingraham, 63, of Knox, McCausland said Wednesday.

Arsenault, who was not wearing a seat belt, was thrown out the passenger’s-side window. Camacho was trapped in the vehicle before rescue personnel freed him, McCausland said.

BDN writer Ryan McLaughlin contributed to this report.
