Dolores V. McGowan

MILLINOCKET – Dolores Virginia McGowan, 78, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013. Dolly was born May 5, 1934, in Millinocket, the daughter of Harry and Myrtle (Gregory) McGowan Sr.
She graduated from Stearns High School, class of 1953. Dolly made her career as a loving homemaker for many families in Millinocket. Her biggest passion was her family. She was a nurturing and devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. In her later years she enjoyed the company of good friends at Maine Manor.
She is survived by her daughter, Roberta Oakes and companion, Danny McAvoy; two granddaughters, Erin MacArthur and husband, Scot, and Jamie Oakes and companion, Chad Bean; Memee’s greatest joys, her great-grandchildren, Mason and Ella MacArthur, and Leah Lyshon; five special nephews whom she loved like her own, James Slauenwhite Sr. and wife, Linda, Lawrence Slauenwhite, Robert Leavitt, Bruce Leavitt, and Scott Leavitt and wife, Lorrie; several other nieces and nephews; and two brothers, Dana McGowan and wife, Jean, and Robert McGowan and wife, Zelda. In addition to her parents, Dolly was predeceased by two brothers, James McGowan and Harry McGowan Jr.; and two sisters, Catherine Madore and Helen Leavitt.
At the request of Dolly, there will be no services at this time. A graveside service will be held in the spring at Millinocket Cemetery. Gifts in memory of Dolly may be sent to Katahdin Area Support Group, 10 Field St., Millinocket, ME 04462. Messages of condolence may be expressed at
