BANGOR – David W. Leen, “Unkie,” 67, passed away Jan. 12, 2013, at home. He was born Jan. 19, 1945, in Bangor, son of Sidney J. and June (McKenzie) Leen Jr.
David attended Bangor schools and worked at various jobs, including Grant’s Dairy. He then moved on to Connecticut and Texas for several years. When he returned home, he worked many years as a cook at Killarney’s restaurant in Bangor. He retired from Foxcroft Academy, where he worked several years as a cook during the school year, while enjoying cooking at a youth camp on Sebago Lake during the summers. For many years David enjoyed practicing and competing in Jiu Jitsu, as well as watching a good Western on TV and having his first cup of coffee in the morning at Judy’s.
David was predeceased by his parents. He is survived by his siblings: sister, Diana Violette and partner, Rick Beede, of Clifton; brothers, Mark Leen and wife, Debra, of Bangor, and Sidney J. Leen III of Bangor; and sister, Joanna Call and husband, David, of Bangor. David is also survived by many nieces and nephews, who affectionately nicknamed him “Unkie,” a name he held with greatest pride; as well as many cousins, including Francis “Buster” Leen and wife, Cindy, Armand Leen, June Leen, and Cathy Wescott and husband, Gerald, and their families.
Graveside services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 16, at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Ohio Street, Bangor. A reception will be afterward at the home of Evelyn and Steve Conrad, 60 Washington St., Brewer. Arrangements by Greenlawn Funeral Directors, Bangor.
