BANGOR, Maine — A Glenburn man was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct Thursday after causing a disturbance at a Bangor convenience store, police said.

Staff at Seamus’ on the corner of Finson Road and Blue Hill East advised police shortly after noon that Ryan Sawyer, 24, was “being aggressive toward the store staff,” Bangor police Lt. Steve Hunt said.

In addition to his aggressive behavior, Sawyer was additionally attempting to steal items from the store, Hunt said.

Officer Paul Colley responded and encountered Sawyer in the parking lot, and Sawyer was not cooperative, according to Hunt.

“He responded with profanity against [Colley] and he did not comply with being detained,” Hunt said.

Colley was able to get one handcuff on Sawyer, but he continued to resist, resulting in a scuffle, the lieutenant said.

Sawyer was eventually subdued and charged with disorderly conduct and refusing to submit to arrest, Hunt said. He remained at Penobscot County Jail on Friday.
