ROCKLAND, Maine — Carol Maines of Rockland was elected Tuesday afternoon as the new chair of the Knox County Commissioners.

Maines succeeds Roger Moody of Camden who has served as chairman for the past two years. Moody said he believed it was best for the position to rotate among commissioners and urged one of the other two commissioners to accept the job.

Maines, a Democrat, was elected to the board of commissioners in 2010. She represents Rockland, Rockport, Owls Head and South Thomaston. Her term runs through 2014.

Richard Parent Jr. of Warren was elected as vice chairman of the board.
