BANGOR – Richard A. Laferte II, 31, died very unexpectedly Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013, while home in Maine visiting family and friends with his wife, Holly from their home in California. Richard was born May 16, 1981, in West Chester, Pa.
He moved to Maine in 1983 and grew up in Bangor where he was a Fairmount Park “parkie,” played West Side Little League baseball and hockey for Bangor Youth Hockey and the PVHC Travel Bears. He was selected for Maine State Pee Wee Select team. He attended YMCA Leader’s School, where he was selected to receive the Fellowship Cup during his last year in attendance. Richard attended Bangor schools and graduated from John Bapst Memorial High School in 1999. Richard loved music and was actively involved in promoting artists through the Farmageddon record label. He represented several groups and would often accompany them in concert with his wash tub bass, scrub board and musical spoons.
Richard is survived by his wife of four years, Holly Atkinson Laferte; his parents, Dick and Debbie Laferte of Bangor; Holly’s parents, Dean and Louise Atkinson of Gardner and Cora and Jerry Prenctice of E. Whitefield; his sister, Jennifer Laferte-Carlson and her husband, of Dedham; his sister, Jen Atkinson of S. Portland; his nephews, Sam Carlson and Laith Atkinson; and niece, Lily Carlson. To them Richard was “Unc.” Richard is also survived by an amazing network of friends from London, England, Maine and across the country. His loyalty to his friends and family was unconditional.
Richard lived his short life to the fullest. To honor his life, friends and family are invited to gather 4 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 10, at Peakes Hill Lodge, Dedham for a “time of remembrance” followed by a kickin’ party.
