Former high school basketball star accused of theft

LINCOLN, Maine — A former standout basketball player for Mattanawcook Academy is due in Lincoln District Court on March 19 after police accused him of attempting to steal from a town resident, police said.

Brady Vose, 23, of Lincoln was issued a summons on Jan. 3 charging him with two counts of theft.

Officer Brandi Alton was dispatched to the Lincoln Federal Credit Union at about 10:15 a.m. Thursday to answer a fraud complaint, said Police Chief William Lawrence. When she arrived, credit union workers told her that a young man had attempted to cash two checks that didn’t belong to him.

Alton identified Vose as the suspect and learned that the checks belonged to a resident of Lakeview Street and had been stolen from him, Lawrence said.

A guard on the Mattanawcook Academy boys basketball team, Vose was an honorable mention for the All-Maine Basketball Team in 2009. He was a high school all-conference first team member that year and a Maine McDonald’s All-Star player. Vose also played football at MA.

A prosecutor at the Penobscot County District Attorney’s Office in Bangor handling the case did not immediately return a telephone message on Tuesday.
