Bangor police urge greater caution in wake of purse theft reports

By Ryan McLaughlin, BDN Staff

BANGOR, Maine — Police have fielded several calls regarding purse thefts at area stores since the beginning of December, and Sgt. Paul Edwards is advising women to keep their belongings secure.

“At this time, the cases are being investigated and photographic evidence is being looked through,” the sergeant said.

Shoppers are advised to never leave a purse or pocketbook unattended, “not even for one second,” Edwards said. Many purse snatchers commit the crime swiftly, he added.

Anyone with information about the purse thefts should call Bangor police at 947-7382, and use extension 6 to access the tip line.
