HOWLAND – Rebecca G. (Fleming) Weymouth, 88, wife of the late Byron Weymouth Sr., passed away Jan. 6, 2013, at Cummings Healthcare Facility, Howland. She was born Jan. 24, 1924, in Lincoln, daughter of James Allen and Harriet (Whitten) Fleming.
From wedding dresses to pot holders, Becky was known for her love of sewing. She specialized in log cabin quilts. She and her husband, Byron, were worthy matron and patron with the Order of the Eastern Star of which she was a 50-year member. Becky also loved to cook. A couple of her cooking positions included a cook at a sorority house at University of Maine, Orono, and also at a bear hunting camp. Later in life she was a foster “Grandmother” with the Penquis Cap Head Start program. She volunteered her time at the food pantry at Howland Methodist Church. Helping people gave her great joy. Becky also loved to travel. She made two trips to Hawaii and multiple trips to the West Coast, visiting 48 of the 50 states.
She is survived by six children, Harriet and David Smiley of Hermon, Sharon and Myles Hooper of Zephyrhils, Fla., Byron Weymouth Jr. of Biloxi, Miss., Martha Nash and Leonard of Enfield, Mark and Robin Weymouth of East Millinocket, and Bruce Weymouth and Lisa of Stockholm; three siblings, Murvyle Fleming of Zephyrhills, Fla., Noreen McPhee of Old Town and Clifford Fleming of Milford; 19 grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was predeceased by a daughter, Dianne Jackson; sister, Ethel; and brothers, Robert, James and Alfred.
Friends may call noon until the time of service 2 p.m. Saturday at Clay Funeral Home, 7 Lee Road, Lincoln, with the Rev. Alan Porter officiating. Spring interment will be at Howland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the activities fund at either Penobscot Valley Hospital or Cummings Healthcare Facility.
