One driver ejected, another trapped in car after Washington County collision

DAY BLOCK TOWNSHIP, Maine — Two rescue helicopters were called in to the scene of a car accident on Route 9 in Day Block Township, Washington County, on Sunday afternoon.

Details were sketchy, but Washington County Dispatcher Richard Moore said both drivers are injured after a Jeep and a Lexus collided on Route 9 sometime around 3:15 p.m.

One driver was ejected from a vehicle, Moore said, while another was trapped inside. Moore said he was unsure which driver was from which vehicle, and said he had no information about the extent of their injuries, though they were severe enough to call LifeFlight.

By 4 p.m., one LifeFlight helicopter had arrived from Bangor and another was on its way from Lewiston, Moore said. Wesley Fire Department was on the scene with the Jaws of Life trying to free the driver pinned inside the vehicle.

Washington County Sheriff’s Office and fire departments from Beddington and Deblois were also at the accident site, Moore said. Two ambulances from Downeast EMS were also on the scene.

Both drivers were to be flown to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor, Moore said.

The Washington County Regional Communications Center said additional details about the accident would likely be unavailable before Monday.
