BREWER – Mary J. Cassum, 68, went to be with the Lord Jan. 2, 2013, at her home, after a period of declining health. She was born Feb. 10, 1944, in Newport, R.I., the daughter of Teresa (Higgins) O’Connor.
Mary was a 1962 graduate of John Bapst High School and member of St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Bangor. Mary worked as a secretary for 24 years for the state of Maine Department of Vocational Rehabilitation. Grammy Cassum will be missed for her hugs and all the love that she showered on her grandchildren. Her joy in life was to share in any sport or event to cheer on her grandchildren and she was their biggest fan. Her favorite place on earth was Acadia National Park where she loved to be. Rest in peace, Grammy. We all love you.
Surviving are three children, Randy Cassum and his wife, Kelly, of Bangor, Chris Cassum and his wife, Rhonda, of Clifton and Shawn Cassum of Brewer; eight grandchildren, Mikaela, Skylar and Miah Cassum, all of Bangor, Cara and Devan Oleksyk and Mariah Cassum of Clifton, Lauren Cassum and Garrett Anderson of Hermon; one sister, Kathy Thibault and her husband, Thierry, of France; one brother, Thomas O’Connor and his wife, Betsy, of Boston; nieces and nephews; and a daughter-in-law, Sharon Anderson of Hermon. She was predeceased by her son, Norman Cassum, in 1994.
Family and friends may visit 3-6 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 6, at Kiley & Foley Funeral Service, 299 Union St., Bangor. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 7, at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Ohio Street, Bangor, with a time of fellowship and refreshments in the parish center immediately afterward.
