STOCKTON SPRINGS, Maine — Firefighters were able to contain a blaze that destroyed a garage, saving the adjacent trailer home off Route 1 on Friday afternoon.

No one was in the garage or trailer at the time of the fire.

Departments from nearby Prospect and Searsport assisted.

Devon Pierce, who had been renting the home with his fiancee and two children, said they had been living there just a couple of months. They were in the process of moving when he returned to pick up more possessions to find the garage in flames, he said.

Pierce said the property is owned by Darren Shute and the trailer is owned by his son, Justin Shute.
