BATH, Maine — A Bath man faces a felony charge of elevated aggravated assault for allegedly stabbing another man several times during a dispute early Monday at Maritime Apartments.
The victim’s injuries are not life-threatening, police said Monday.
Charles M. Gates, 31, of Bath stands accused of elevated aggravated assault with a dangerous weapon in the alleged incident. Police did not release the identity of the victim.
Lt. Stanley Cielinski said bail was set at $10,000 cash. Gates, unable to make bail, was being held at Two Bridges Regional Jail on Monday.
According to police, sometime before 2:03 a.m. Monday, Gates was involved in a fight with a 24-year-old Bath man at 42 Windjammer Way, Cielinski said.
“During the fight Mr. Gates stabbed the 24-year-old male several times before fleeing the apartment,” Cielinski said. “Bath officers located Mr. Gates hiding in a friend’s apartment in the same complex [Maritime Apartments].”
The victim was transported to Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick and then later transferred to Maine Medical Center in Portland.
In a separate incident reported Dec. 29, Michael Gaines, 48, of Bath, faces a charge of violation of conditions of release for allegedly contacting an ex-girlfriend whom he is accused of assaulting on Dec. 23, Cielinski said.
The alleged assault on Gaines’ live-in girlfriend took place on Court Street, Cielinski said.
“She had a really big, black eye,” he said.
