SHERMAN – Roxanne Charlotte (Blakley) Elwell stepped into the arms of her Savior, Jesus Christ, Jan. 2, 2013, at a Bangor hospital. She was born Jan. 9, 1919, in Sherman Station, the daughter of Albert and Alice (Gaskin) Blakley.
Roxie, as she was affectionately known by those who knew and loved her, drove school bus in the area for more than 40 years. She attended Monarda Calvary Baptist Church for many years.
Roxie was predeceased by her husband of 60 years, Herman Elwell Jr., who died in 1998; as well as a son, Douglas Elwell. She is survived by four children, Merita Sides and her husband, Richard, of Milford, Peggy DeCesere and her husband, Robert, of Orono, Sheila Young and her husband, Frank, of Sherman and Michael Elwell and his wife, Betty, of Sherman; a daughter-in-law, Melinda Elwell of Patten; a sister-in-law, Angie Strait; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, a great-great-granddaughter, several nieces, nephews and cousins, as well as many special friends. She was predeceased by very special friends, Rodney and Ada Bradeen of Connecticut.
Friends may call 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday at the home of Michael and Betty Elwell, Sherman, where funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday with the Rev. Donis Willigar officiating. Spring interment will be at Sherman Mills Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Hospice of Aroostook. Arrangements with Clay Funeral Home, 7 Lee Road, Lincoln.
