BANGOR, Maine — A man from Brockton, Mass., who was arrested in October after police said he accidentally dropped a bag of cocaine on the floor of Diamonds Gentleman’s Club was indicted Wednesday by the Penobscot County grand jury.

Lakeem S. McFadden, 29, was in the Harlow Street nightclub at about 10:30 p.m. Oct. 12 when an employee saw him drop the drugs, Bangor police Sgt. Paul Edwards said at the time of his arrest. The bag allegedly contained 9.2 grams of rock cocaine, and McFadden was charged with felony aggravated trafficking in scheduled drugs.

He was indicted by the grand jury on the aggravated drug trafficking charge and on a charge of unlawful possession of scheduled drugs.

“McFadden was walking to the restroom when he dropped the bag with white substance on the floor,” Edwards said. “An employee walking right behind him noticed this and took the bag to the office. Management deemed it looked suspicious and called police.”

Shortly after dropping the bag, McFadden noticed his mistake.

“He was missing it, and he was actually wondering where it was and started questioning staff,” Edwards said. “He didn’t know they had called the police.”

He was taken to the Penobscot County Jail after his arrest and has remained behind bars since then, a jail official said Wednesday.

If convicted, McFadden could be sentenced to up to 30 years in prison. He was one of 67 people indicted Wednesday by the grand jury.
