By Christina Higginbotham, Foster's Daily Democrat

BERWICK, Maine — The American Legion is seeking town resident’s nominations for their upcoming 2013 Citizen and Business of the year awards. The chosen nominee will be a part of the town’s 300th anniversary celebration.

A deserving member of the community will be recognized for their devotion to the town. A candidate for nomination will have assisted the community during the past year, such as by volunteering to read at schools and participating in nonprofit organizations.

The celebration itself will be hosted at 6 p.m. Saturday, April 27, in the Berwick Town Hall auditorium and is sponsored by the Charles S. Hatch Post No. 79.

This event is made possible by The American Legion and the Lady Auxiliary Club.

Along with the buffet dinner, recognition of Citizen of the Year and Business of the Year, Fireman of the Year and New Eagle Scouts also will be acknowledged.

John Couture’s culinary department at Nobel High School will cater the event. A meal will be provided to the more than 120 guests expected to attend. The students, under Couture’s leadership, will plan, prepare, cook and serve the entire meal.

The deadline for submitting nominations is Jan. 31.

Nominations can be made at The American Legion’s website, http://berwickmelegionpost79.org or emailed to Ron Vigue at RonV2@comcast.net.
