Ruth E. (Pierce) Fitts

HOLDEN – Ruth E. (Pierce) Fitts, 82, passed away Dec. 27, 2012. She was born Dec. 4, 1930, in Providence, R.I., the daughter of Howard H. and Blanche (Smith) Pierce.

Ruth was a graduate of East Providence (R.I.) High School, class of 1948, and Bangor Theological Seminary. She was the pastor of Forest Avenue Congregational Church of Bangor, and administrative assistant to Dr. Alan Boone from 1976 to 1995. She enjoyed feeding a menagerie of her beloved wildlife and providing a loving home for many dogs and cats in need throughout the years. Ruth had a caring interest of those around her, engaging them in extended talks of matters at hand. Throughout her life she was a staunch advocate of animal’s rights.

Ruth is survived by her children, Donald Green of Amityville, N.Y., Stephen Green of Rehoboth, Mass., Kenneth Green of Assonet, Mass., Richard Green of Tallahassee, Fla., and Deborah Green (Simpson) Gerow of Holden; grandchildren, Kimberly Green, Jennie Green Sermak, Nathan Green, Rebekah (Simpson) and Shawn Timms, Ashlee Simpson, Rhiannon Green and Aaveh Green; four great-grandchildren; and four stepgrandchildren, Aimee, Tony, Angie and Annemarie. She was predeceased by her parents, Howard H. and Blanche Pierce.

A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, at the Brewer Chapel of Brookings-Smith, 55 South Main St., Brewer, with the Rev. Dr. James L. Haddix, pastor and teacher of All Souls Congregational Church, officiating. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments in the Family Reception Rooms of Brookings-Smith immediately after the service.
