Sports events around state postponed

PORTLAND, Maine — The Portland Pirates have postponed their hockey game scheduled for Thursday against the Providence Bruins at the Cumberland County Civic Center due to inclement weather.

The game will be made up at 7 p.m. Jan. 2 at the Civic Center, and tickets purchased for Thursday’s game will be honored Jan. 2.

Refunds will also be available from 5 p.m. Thursday through the day of the game.

Numerous high school sporting events throughout the state have been rescheduled due to the storm.

The Brewer boys and girls basketball teams were scheduled to play Hampden Academy on Thursday, but those games have been rescheduled for Friday evening.

The boys’ teams will play in Brewer while the girls will play in Hampden. Both games are scheduled for a 7 p.m. tipoff.

In addition, the Bangor boys and girls have rescheduled their games with Oxford Hills of South Paris from Thursday to Jan. 14.

In Class B action, a highly anticipated showdown between the Presque Isle girls, the defending state champions, and Mount Desert Island has been rescheduled from Thursday to Saturday.

The girls and boys teams will play a doubleheader in Aroostook County, with the girls tipping things off at 10 a.m. and the boys at 11:45, according to Presque Isle’s website.

Another matchup of Class B girls contenders between Nokomis and Camden Hills has also been moved from Thursday to Saturday.

The girls teams will play in Rockport at 1 p.m., followed by a matchup between the two boys squads at 2:30.
