BANGOR, Maine — Police are still looking for a Curve Street resident who has been unaccounted for since Oct. 4.

Shawn Joseph Flewelling, 38, was reported missing by family members on Oct. 24. They had last seen him 20 days earlier. Police reached out to the media in mid-November, seeking the public’s help in finding Flewelling.

Bangor police Sgt. Paul Edwards said Thursday that Flewelling “fell off the face of the Earth” on Oct. 4.

“That man has vanished into thin air,” Edwards said.

Edwards said Flewelling’s family members and friends have been able to offer few clues as to what might have happened, where he might have gone, and why.

“They’re as dumbfounded as everyone else,” the sergeant said, adding that Flewelling hasn’t contacted any family members over the holidays.

Edwards said police have no indication that foul play was involved, but that is always a possibility. He said Flewelling had no warrants out for his arrest that might have prompted him to flee the state.

Police describe Flewelling as 5 feet, 9 inches tall, weighing 180-200 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. He has a tattoos of an eagle on his left arm, the name “Sara” on his right arm, dice on one of his hands and a cobweb on his right shoulder, according to police.

Anyone with information about Flewelling’s whereabouts is urged to call Bangor police Detective Jim Carr at 947-7382. If you wish to remain anonymous, press 6 to use the tip line.
