WASHBURN – Ethel Marie Spooner, 98, died Dec. 24, 2012 at a Caribou health care facility. She was born Dec. 24, 1914, in Wade, the daughter of John and Myrtie (Butterfield) Kinney.
Ethel spent the early years of her life in the Wade and Washburn area and attended schools in both of those towns. Ethel was a loving aunt to all of her nieces and nephews and helped to take care of many of them at times. Ethel moved to Massachusetts after a while and worked in a few places until she began working for the Massachusetts Commonwealth and stayed there until her retirement. She and her husband, Earl spent many winters in Florida and summers in Maine. They attended churches both while in Florida and back in Northern Maine.
Ethel is survived by one sister, Gladys Young of Limestone; and three stepchildren of Florida, Buzz Spooner, Gary Spooner and Carol Hearn; many nieces and nephews; and two sisters-in-law; Florence Kinney of Washburn and Lantie Kinney of Caribou. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, Earl Spooner in 1999; her brothers, Gordon Kinney, John Kinney Jr., and Floyd Kinney; and a sister, Crystal O’Neil.
Family and friends may call 10-11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 29, at Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, 30 Church St., Presque Isle, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. with Rev.
