Maine man arrested, two other suspects sought in connection with NH shooting

FREEDOM, N.H. — A Maine man was arrested, and two other suspects are being sought in connection with a Christmas Eve shooting in Freedom, N.H., during which a man was shot in the leg.

Joseph Wright, 38, of Parsonsfield, who allegedly was at the scene during the shooting, has been charged with resisting arrest, falsifying physical evidence and hindering apprehension. He was taken to Carroll County House of Corrections, where he remained Tuesday afternoon. Information about his bail was not immediately available.

New Hampshire State Police investigators are looking for two adults, a man and a woman,who reportedly also were at the scene when the shooting took place.

During the incident, which occurred on Huckins Road shortly after 8 p.m. on Monday, an adult male suffered a gunshot wound to his leg, Sgt. Justin Rowe of the New Hampshire State Police said in a news release issued on Tuesday.

The victim, whose name was not released, was taken to a local hospital, where he was treated and then released.

State police also said that a Carroll County Sheriff’s Department deputy responding to the call was hurt when his gun accidentally went off. He was treated and is expected to make a full recovery.

Police declined to release details of the circumstances surrounding either shooting incident.

Freedom is a Carroll County community near the New Hampshire-Maine border.
