Onie Murphy Macleod

BELFAST – Onie Murphy Macleod, 75, died Saturday, Dec. 22, 2012, at home where she had resided for 55 years. She was born May 5, 1937, in Waldo, the oldest daughter of the late Percy and Madeline (Smith) Murphy.
Onie attended schools in Belfast. She married Robert Macleod in January 1954 and they shared 47 years working together establishing Macleod Furniture and raising three children until his death in 2001. Bob and Onie shared many Shrine times together while he was on the path to be potentate. They spent many happy hours at Swan Lake and snowmobiling with their children, grandchildren and friends. They also enjoyed many camping trips with friends, especially at Georges Lake, Fryeburg Fair and Bar Harbor. Onie also cooked for many years for the Belfast Rotary Club as well as being a leader for the Girl Scouts. In recent years she enjoyed boating with her companion, Ed.
Onie is survived by her three children, Scott and wife, Sherry, and their sons, Shawn and Travis, Brent and children, Sarah, Murphy and Matthew, and Laurie Dawson and husband, Bill, and their children, Liz and Rob. She is also survived by four great-grandchildren, Brianna, Harmony, Deaglan and Lucy. Onie also leaves behind her very special sister, Joan Light and husband, Howard Torrey. Also surviving Onie is her companion of the last few years, Ed Hardy; and many special friends and extended relatives. In addition to Bob, Onie was predeceased by brothers-in-law, Timothy Light and Bruce Macleod.
Family and friends are invited to drop in anytime between 1-3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 29, for a celebration of life at Belfast Shrine Club, High Street. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Waldo County Oncology Unit, P.O. Box 287, Belfast, ME 04915; or Waldo County YMCA, 157 Lincolnville Ave., Belfast, ME 04915. Arrangements are under the care of Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Ave., Belfast.
