PORTLAND, Maine — Three finalists have been selected for the 42nd Fitzpatrick Trophy presented annually to the top high school senior football player in the state as chosen by a selection committee and the media.
Donald Goodrich of Cheverus of Portland, Alex Shain of Sanford and Chandler Shostak of Cony of Augusta emerged from a field of 12 semifinalists for the Portland-based award, which will be presented Jan. 20.
Goodrich, a tailback-defensive end, rushed for 1,722 yards and 24 touchdowns while making 43 tackles on defense this fall. Shain, a tailback-linebacker, rushed for 1,400 yards and 28 touchdowns with 43 solo tackles.
Shostak, a wide receiver and defensive back, caught 56 passes for 853 yards with 12 touchdowns and had 11 pass interceptions.
