NEW BEDFORD, Mass. – Alberta W. Hughey, 90, passed away quietly after a brief illness in New Bedford, MA. She was the beloved wife of Pastor Philip C. Hughey, Jr. for 69 years. Born in Topping, VA , the daughter of Ashby and Hilda Daniel, she grew up in Virginia and New York City. She graduated from Packard School of Business, and attended Philadelphia School of the Bible. She was a Sunday School Teacher for many years. During the summers she cooked meals for hundreds of campers at the Aroostook Bible Camp, and conducted open-air Good News Clubs in Brewer, Maine and Manchester NH. She is survived by her husband, Philip, and children, Philip C. Hughey III and his wife Marilyn, Alberta W. Merrill and her husband Erwin, Susan G. Hughey, Ruth H. Vanidestine and her husband Gary, and Paul D. Hughey and his wife Lori. She will be greatly missed by her 12 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. A memorial gathering will be held for family and friends at a later date.
