KENNEBUNK, Maine — In the wake of several residential burglaries that are under investigation, Kennebunk police are urging community members to secure their homes as the Christmas holiday approaches.

Burglaries tend to go up during the Christmas holiday, Lt. Anthony Bean Burpee of the Kennebunk police noted in a news release.

Bean Burpee said one of the best ways to prevent a burglary is to make a home an unattractive target, by hardening entry points such as doors, windows and bulkheads. He’s also advising the public to keep doors and windows locked and secured at all times.

Residents leaving town for the holidays are advised to pause delivery of daily newspapers and mail, which can give potential burglars hints that a residence is vacant.

Anyone who sees suspicious activity is encouraged to call 911 and wait for police to arrive. Folks in Kennebunk with information on burglaries the department is investigating should contact 985-6121, ext. 1622. The department’s tip line can be accessed by extension 1319, or visiting www.kennebunkpolice.org or visiting the department’s page on Facebook.
