Comments for: Neocons push against Chuck Hagel

Guidelines for posting on bangordailynews.com

The Bangor Daily News and the Bangor Publishing Co. encourage comments about stories, but you must follow our terms of service.

  1. Keep it civil and stay on topic
  2. No vulgarity, racial slurs, name-calling or personal attacks.
  3. People who harass others or joke about tragedies will be blocked.
The primary rule here is pretty simple: Treat others with the same respect you'd want for yourself. Here are some guidelines (see more):

  • Screw the GOP’rs that call for Hagel’s nomination to be shot down. Hagel is going to be the 1st SECDEF, since George Marshal, that actually served in the mud and actually knows the TOTAL cost’s of going to war, declared or otherwise. A balanced perspectve coming from the 3rd floor of The Pentagon has been missing for a very long time. Hagel can bring that perspective back and get it put where it needs to be, out where everyone can see it, as opposed to where it’s been seen far too frequently, name the White House and the Chicken Hawk’s.

  • Hagel would be a good choice. Not only for bi-partisan relations, but because realism and objectivity are always welcome when it comes to crafting foreign policy. No, Hagel is not the non-interventionist I would like to see in this position, though he’s far better than many alternatives.

The neocons would still have us at full force in the futile Iraq and Afghanistan wars and would have pushed us into Iran and Syria by now. Their foolish policies have wasted countless lives and treasure. They need to stop being regarded as “experts” and exposed as the fools and phonies they are.

      • Sure. Obama getting on the Petraeus “surge” bandwagon and thinking it would make a meaningful difference was a mistake. I didn’t support it by any means…though what do you think the McCain/Bush counter would look like?

He is a great choice. And the fact that AIPAC doesn’t like him just seals the deal.

  • Cecil Gray

The Neocons and the extreme false industrial war machine “patriots” can go back to the darkness from where they came.
