Picture-perfect ornaments

For the Lloyd family in Hampden, the holidays are a time to decorate the house and reflect on the happy events of the year. It’s also a chance to combine the two into a unique tradition.

“In looking at the boxes of ornaments, we realize that our greatest memories are not an ornament that we purchased but in times we spent together,” family matriarch Jenifer Lloyd said. “What better way to remember those special times than to hang pictures of them on our tree and thus our the tradition began.”

The tradition began three years ago as the family was completing family “yearbooks” through an online book making website to tell the story of the year.

To tell the story of the year on the tree, the family chooses “a collection of life’s moments” and has the photos printed in 2 inch by 3 inch prints or 3 inch by 4 inch prints. Once the ornaments arrive, the family decorates the Christmas tree with them.

At the end of each season, the photograph ornaments are placed safely in a box and saved for future years and for posterity.

“This is something we can pass on to future generations,” she said.
