CASCO, Maine — A Naples woman was seriously injured Tuesday afternoon when the pickup truck she was riding in was struck by a box truck on Poland Spring Road, police said.

Shawn Trottier, 29, of Naples and Sabrina Cloutier, 33, were heading southbound when Trottier lost control of the pickup on the icy road, according to a news release from the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office.

The pickup spun into the oncoming lane, and the passenger-side door was hit by a Freightliner truck driven by Max Walton, 46, of Livermore Falls.

Trottier and Cloutier both had to be extricated from the vehicle by medical personnel while Walton, whose truck is owned by Kris-Way Truck Leasing of South Portland, was not injured.

Cloutier suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to Maine Medical Center, while Trottier was also transported to the Portland hospital for possible broken bones, the release said.

Poland Spring Road is closed to traffic between Routes 85 and 121 while crews reconstruct the crash.
