Woman injured in two-vehicle Searsport crash

By Abigail Curtis, BDN Staff

SEARSPORT, Maine — Police said that a woman suffered minor injuries Sunday morning in a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Mount Ephraim and Old County roads.

Roger A. Robertson Sr., 56, of Searsport had been driving on Old County Road in his 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer when he came to that intersection at about 11:20 a.m., according to Chief Dick LaHaye of the Searsport Police Department.

Robertson told police later that he looked both ways and then proceeded, LaHaye said, but he then hit a 2000 Ford Escort driven by Katherine Hecht, 51, also of Searsport.

“He hit Hecht on the left rear driver’s side of her vehicle and spun her off into a ditch,” the chief said. “Her vehicle was totaled.”

She complained of back and leg pain and was taken to Waldo County General Hospital in Belfast by Searsport Ambulance, he said.

Robertson was not injured. His vehicle had about $1,000 in damage to the front end, according to the chief.

The Searsport Fire Department also assisted at the scene, LaHaye said. The accident is not being investigated further.

“Just an accident,” he said.
