PORTLAND, Maine — In the aftermath of Friday’s school shooting in Newtown, Conn., President Barack Obama canceled a planned trip to Maine next week.
The president had planned to visit the University of Southern Maine on Wednesday to advocate for his proposal to extend tax cuts for taxpayers earning as much as $250,000. The visit was announced Friday morning.
However, shortly after 4:30 p.m. Friday, the White House released a statement announcing that the president’s Maine visit has been canceled.
