Rudolph I. Cyr

VAN BUREN – Rudolph I. Cyr, 81, died Dec. 12, 2012, surrounded by his loving family at a Van Buren health care facility. He was born Sept. 6, 1931, in Van Buren, the son of Everett and Almida (Ruest) Cyr.

Rudy was educated in local schools and was a 1949 graduate of Van Buren Boys High School. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War and a member of the American Legion, Levasseur-Farrell Post 49, Van Buren. Rudy was very active in his community and church as a member and past president of Van Buren Rotary Club and Knights of Columbus Council No. 1635, serving as a former Grand Knight. He was employed by the U.S. Postal Service for 33 years, the last nine as Postmaster in Van Buren.

Rudy is survived by his beloved wife of more than 50 years, Althea (Ouellette) Cyr of Van Buren; two daughters, Patty Ouellette and fiance, Glen Picard, of Madawaska and Brenda Pine and husband, Charles, of Cumberland; one son, Jeffrey Cyr and his wife, Mindy, of Belmont, N.H.; two sisters, Greta Bradley of East Winachi, Wash., and Cora Sirois of Van Buren; and five grandchildren, Logan and Cody Ouellette, Chelsea Pine, Taylor and Bradley Cyr.

In keeping with his wishes, there will be no visiting hours. A funeral Mass will be celebrated 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 15, at St. Bruno-St. Remi Catholic Church. Spring interment will be at Maine Veterans Cemetery, Caribou. Those who wish may contribute in his memory to the K of C Parish Needs Fund, 284 Main St., Van Buren, ME 04785.
