Former President George H.W. Bush, and his wife former first lady Barbara Bush, arrive for the premiere of HBO's new documentary on his life near the family compound in Kennebunkport, Maine in June 2012.

HOUSTON — Doctors for former President George H.W. Bush say he’s improved after weeks of treatment for a bronchitis-related cough, though he’s not going home yet.

A spokesman at Methodist Hospital in Houston said Tuesday that Bush’s status hasn’t changed and he remains in stable condition. George Kovacik says the 88-year-old Bush continues “to make positive progress” in his recovery.

No release date has been set for Bush. He’s been hospitalized since Nov. 23.

Bush also spent about a week in the hospital in early November. He was discharged, but he had a flare-up around Thanksgiving and was readmitted.

Bush and his wife, Barbara, split their time between homes in Houston and Kennebunkport, Maine.
