3 teens charged with stealing $20K in cash, jewelry from Bowdoin safe

BOWDOIN, Maine — The Sagadahoc County Sheriff ’s Department has charged three people allegedly involved in a burglary of approximately $20,000 in jewelry and money from a residence on Millay Road in Bowdoin.

The burglary was reported late Saturday morning,.

Issued burglary summonses were 19-year-old Eric Napoleon of 24 Goodnow Lane in Bowdoin, and two 17- year-old males — one from Bowdoin and one from Bowdoinham — said Chief Deputy Brett Strout.

Strout said Monday morning nearly $10,000 in cash and approximately $10,000 in jewelry had been taken from the home, including a safe holding the money and jewelry . The cash was removed, Strout said, and the safe thrown in the Androscoggin River in Topsham.

Deputy Steve Thibeault investigated the case with Detective Dan Reed. The two developed a lead and started conducting interviews that led to the three teens being charged.

Strout said Sunday, Dec. 2, a diver from the Maine State Police dive team recovered the safe from the Androscoggin River, “so we were able to get the safe, quite a bit of property and most but not all of the cash before it had been spent.”

The two 17-year-old males have a West Bath District Court date of Feb. 4 and Napoleon a West Bath District Court date of Feb. 12, according to Strout.
