Guidelines for posting on bangordailynews.com

The Bangor Daily News and the Bangor Publishing Co. encourage comments about stories, but you must follow our terms of service.

  1. Keep it civil and stay on topic
  2. No vulgarity, racial slurs, name-calling or personal attacks.
  3. People who harass others or joke about tragedies will be blocked.
The primary rule here is pretty simple: Treat others with the same respect you'd want for yourself. Here are some guidelines (see more):

  • Bob Higgins

In the students defense, Principal Shedd DID send a memo to parents home with the students asking them to attend with, and I’m quoting here, “There is only one other thing you need to bring for tomorrow: Your open minds.” Guess he got a little more than he bargained for.

      Marijuana is legal in Colorado.

      • Anonymous

And Wa State. But you have to be 21.

      • Anonymous

oh they must be talking about the Cape Elizabeth High School in Colorado.. otherwise, your comment would be irrelevant……..

        • Anonymous

Instead of suspending them they should be required to take Home-Ec classes so their cooking does not make people sick.

          • Anonymous

Ah, yes. Home Ec.. the ulitmate punishment!

            I hated that nonsense.

    • It might help open up the creative right side of the brain, though not the left – in fact the opposite.

  • Bob

Why woukd Shedd suspend them for two days when he states he does not know if all of them knew what was in the cookies???

    • My guess would be school policy.

      • Anonymous

        The policy banning cookies?

      • Anonymous

        If so, bad blanket policy.

  • Anonymous

Maybe because the libs. didn’t get their tax money for the weed.

    • Anonymous

exaclty, the libs and some ‘moderate conservatives’ (i.e., ashamed libs) are all about taxing everything they can get their hands on…
already have mail order set up with CO and WA….no taxes, no fees, and the immoral libs can’t plunder a bit of the profit
freedom and a real free market is beautiful thing!!

Omg we smoke pot in the school parking lot 40 years ago!! Called the cops??!! Seriously time to move on people

    • Anonymous

and I’ve stolen in the past, it should be legal. It is time to instill MORALS in our youth, this does start at home, not with laws, but our laws should reflect our countries morals, rather than our lack there of……

      • Anonymous

Please tell me how is this immoral ?? U must have some weird definition.

        • Jesus criest

Some people tend to hang in closed social circles or just like being hypocritical in general (friends or family who use somewheres along the line but won’t admit). any way you put it, if your in school now-a-days and you DONT smoke weed in HS, you are most likely not at any parties or social gatherings that students attend, if thats a negative or positive thing you could debate yourselves, im just saying its the normal now, morals are no longer part of the question really. Legality sure, for now anyway.

Btw everytime I see someone anti-weed while smoking a cigarette or drinking beer every night after work, I chuckle a bit.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) 32,885 people died in traffic crashes in 2010 in the United States (latest figures available), including an estimated 10,228 people who died in drunk driving crashes, accounting for 31% of all traffic deaths last year.

      http://www.centurycouncil.org/drunk-driving/drunk-driving-fatalities-national-statistics

      alcohol is legal.

      • Anonymous

Over the past 10 years as POT has become more accepted in the United States, deaths on the roadways because of POT smoking is now rising.
So you think adding more deaths on the roads via pot smoking to the 10,228 deaths via alcohol drinking, is smart?

        • Millicent

if we go by your logic, then we should ban alcohol – perhaps even cars – or guns –

    • Anonymous

In the case of the sailors, do you really think that one of four people on board smoking pot caused the navigational error?
I can cite way more than eight cases in which families have been breoken up and good citizens jailed simply because someone was growing a little weed on the property. College students are stripped of financial aid for smoking a joint at a party. Gangs get involved with marijuana distribution because it is illegal, and I would bet that more than 8 deaths a year result from the violence associated with the illegal marijuana market. Remove the illegality and you remove the threat of violence.
In short, marijuana is not harmless, but the laws against it are WAY more harmful than the drug.

Thanks granny, now back to bed for some rest, wouldn’t want to mess up your nap schedule
you need all the rest you can get to brush up on your critical reading and thinking skills, as this post is a big FAIL

I’d like to see a list of deaths caused by alcohol now, followed by a list of deaths caused by driver inattention…

    • Anonymous

It’s your right to believe what you want but the truth is pot relaxes people. It’s not like alcohol, it doesn’t give you false bravado. It doesn’t change you into a crazed maniac, you don’t see flying purple elephants. . If you ever took a night time cold medicine, it is about the same type of buzz, it relaxes you.

      • So if it “relaxes” you, doesn’t that mean you have lost some motor control? Do you “smoke” and drive?

        • Anonymous

Perhaps it can affect motor skills for a few people but not as much as talking on a phone distracts most of your senses, you tend to drive slower, because you focus harder on whatever it is your doing, unlike when you get a few alcohol drinks in you.
Yes I did smoke and drive 40 years ago and no I’ve never been in an accident that I caused and no I never got a ticket for anything.

I stopped smoking pot 39 years ago or there about because I’d rather spend my money on other things like a house.

    • Jesus criest

You won’t be upset when it becomes legalized for recreational use right? Just make your children do it behind your back like they will anyway, its better that way because they won’t be in controlled environments eh? I didn’t really read or click anything there, that looks like copy-pasta spam you have saved in a notepad somewheres on your computer, grow up!

My guess is he raided his parents medical pot stash. Hope the cops are looking into this as a possibility. The sort of thing will be a problem in Washington and Colorado, in the future.
    Careful what ya vote for.

    • Anonymous

I raided my parents liquor cabinet as a teen. What’s your point?

    • Anonymous

You need to smoke a bowl and chill out pal

    • Anonymous

Seems like it’s already a problem in Maine. What’s our excuse?

    • Jesus criest

As opposed to him robbing his moms non medical stash, or some other persons stash? Silly points are silly, half the voters are high anyway and even then only 1/3rd of americans actually waste the time to see a new talking head in a suit n tie.

Who cares a few high school kids having some fun.

  • Anonymous

It looks like the school nurse may have ratted out the student who went to her because he was sick. If there’s no confidentiality between a school nurse and a student seeking medical help, students who use marijuana and have a medical problem at school should think twice about what they say to the nurse – or whether they should even go to the school nurse.

  • Anonymous

I don’t see how anybody got sick unless there was something else in there. Cannabis is the #1 cure for nausea.

  • Anonymous

I’m again puzzled why the kids that ate the cookies are suspended. If they didn’t know what was in them, they should be innocent and not suspended.
