BRISTOL, Maine — The Maine fire marshal’s office is investigating a fatal fire in the town of Bristol.
Maine Department of Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland said one person was killed and one injured in a garage fire at a house on Ocean Side Lane, in the New Harbor section of town, about 12:30 p.m. Sunday. The victim was found inside the garage, while a man was taken to Miles Memorial Hospital in Damariscotta with injuries suffered in the fire.
The victim may be the man’s wife, investigators said. The couple is in their late 60s or early 70s, and are not being identified pending notification of relatives.
The fire was confined to the garage, but the attached house did sustain some damage, McCausland said in a Sunday night press release.
The fire marshal’s office worked until late Sunday to determine the cause of the fire and investigators are expected back at the scene Monday, McCausland said.
An autopsy by the state medical examiner’s office is scheduled for Monday.
