CALAIS – James Edward Monaghan, 88, left this world to be reunited with the love of his life, Phyllis, Thursday, Dec. 6, 2012. James was born Dec. 4, 1924, in Milltown, son of the late Hugh and Anna (Howard) Monaghan.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II on the USS Biloxi. James retired from Woodland Pulp & Paper in 1986 after 36 years of dedicated service. His greatest joy in life was spending time with family at Cozy Cove, the family camp on Pleasant Lake.
In addition to his parents, James was predeceased by his wife of 49 years, Phyllis (Cornish) Monaghan. Surviving are his five children, Priscilla Hatt and her husband, Danny, Mary McLean and her husband, Ted, Paul Monaghan and his wife, Karen, Diane King and her husband, Paul, and James Monaghan Jr. and his wife, Janet; 11 grandchildren, Jason Hatt, Krista Hanson and her husband, Troy, Melissa Manza, Matthew King, Chasity Tuell and her husband, Joey, Jennifer Woodside and her husband, Brandon, Jonathan King, Ashley McLean, Alison Monaghan, Whitney Monaghan and Connor Monaghan; 12 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild; sisters, Beatrice Bailey and Eleanor LaBarre; several nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be held 4-7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, at Mays Funeral Home, 26 Church St., Calais. A celebration of James’ life will be held 1 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial with military honors will be afterward at Calais Cemetery.
