OAKLAND, Maine — Numerous Christmas gifts were stolen from an elderly couple’s home in an early-morning home invasion Thursday, and a neighbor is in custody, according to police.

Oakland police Capt. Rick Stubbert said Friday that Jason Horne, 25, forced his way into the Summer Street home and “stole about 15 or 16 Christmas gifts” while the couple was sleeping.

Some of the gifts were wrapped and others weren’t wrapped, according to Stubbert. While he wouldn’t specify exactly what they were, he said they were for the couple’s family members.

Because of community outreach, police were able to find their suspect on Friday afternoon, and Horne was taken into custody at his Summer Street home, according to a posting on the department’s Facebook page.

Prescription medication was taken from the home as well, Stubbert said.

Horne was charged with burglary and brought to the Kennebec County jail, where he remained Friday afternoon.

The couple received much support from community members, including cash donations, according to the Facebook post.
