Troy man dies in Detroit car crash

By Alex Barber, BDN Staff

DETROIT, Maine — A single-vehicle crash on Wednesday evening left a Troy man dead.

The Somerset County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a crash that killed John C. Klein, 48, of Troy at about 6:17 p.m. Wednesday, said Detective Lt. Carl Gottardi II in a statement Thursday morning.

Gottardi said Klein was traveling from Troy towards Detroit in his silver 2002 Chevrolet Cavalier on the Troy Road when he lost control on a curve and left the roadway.

“The Cavalier rolled over several times, ejecting the driver, who was the only occupant of the motor vehicle,” said Gottardi.

Klein died at the scene, he said.

“The accident is still under investigation and it appears that speed may be a factor in the accident,” said Gottardi.

Deputy Wilfred Dodge responded and investigated the crash. Maine State Police Trooper Chris Carr, the Detroit Fire Department and Somerset County Deputies Jeremy Leal and Don Avery assisted at the scene.
