LA filmmaker seeks OK to close Rumford streets for filming

RUMFORD, Maine — A Los Angeles filmmaker and actor in Rangeley to film a movie has asked selectmen to approve closing a few side streets in Rumford this month.

The board will consider Gavin Peretti’s request at its meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 6, in Rumford Falls Auditorium.

The Maryland native said Nov. 26 by email that the crew would be shooting the film “all over the area from Rangeley to Jackman.”

Peretti hasn’t yet named the Rumford streets he’d like closed, but the date would likely be between Dec. 14 and 20 for one day. The crew will also shoot footage at a private residence in Rumford on another day, but Peretti said that wouldn’t affect the public.

He said the movie, “The Guide,” is about a hunting guide who takes a couple of rich New York stockbrokers on a deer hunt.

“Trouble is, he is slowly coming unhinged and begins to think that the two men are the drug dealer that is messing with his daughter,” Peretti said. “He then begins to hunt them.”

In other business, selectmen will hold two workshops prior to their regular board meeting. One on economic development starts at 5:30 p.m.; the other on the bid process begins at 6 p.m.

Under new business in the regular board meeting, the board will discuss Chapter 40, Political and Yard Sales Signs and Advertisement Banners Ordinance.

Approvals are sought:

• For an amendment to the General Assistance Ordinance, because some weekly and monthly rent rates have increased.

• For a timber harvesting bid for a 60-acre South Rumford lot, westerly across the power lines from the Puiia Business Park off Route 108. The project is to start no sooner than Jan. 1 and end by March 15.

• On a bid for printing 300 copies of the Annual Town Report.

• For liquor license applications for VFW and Amato’s.

• For economic development services.

Additionally, Roger Arsenault, president of the Black Mountain of Maine board, will provide an update on the ski area.
