CASTINE, Maine — A patrol under a special sheriff’s department program Wednesday resulted in charges for three Maine Maritime Academy students accused of alcohol crimes.

The three students were caught during an enforcement detail by the Hancock County Alcohol Enforcement Team, which has been stepping up patrols in the area around MMA in recent months. The students were:

• James Mozley, 20, of Beaufort, S.C., summoned on a charge of illegal transportation of liquor by a minor;

• Dennis Hautaniemi, 24, of Old Lyme, Conn., arrested on a charge of furnishing liquor to a minor; and,

• Chase McGloin, 19, of Dresden, summoned on a charge of illegal transportation of liquor by a minor.

An increase in underage drinking and alcohol violations in the communities around Maine Maritime Academy has resulted in more patrols and arrests, according to Deputy Chris Thornton, coordinator of the alcohol task force.
