WINTERPORT, Maine — A Frankfort man and Winterport woman escaped serious injury Thursday morning in a two vehicle collision on Monroe Road, according to police.

A sports utility vehicle driven by Timothy White, 47, of Frankfort and a gray Nissan sedan operated by Bethany Henneberry, 19, of Winterport collided around 11 a.m. about a mile from Route 69, according to Deputy Darrin Moody of the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office.

White suffered a broken leg and back injuries and was transported to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor, Moody said. Henneberry also suffered back injuries and was taken to EMMC. Both remained at the hospital Thursday afternoon, the deputy said.

Moody said both drivers were wearing seat belts and fortunate to escape more serious injury.

“It could’ve been a lot worse,” he said.

Monroe Road was shut down to traffic for about 45 minutes and later was reduced to one lane while sheriff’s deputies reconstructed the crash.

Both vehicles were demolished in the accident, which remains under investigation, Moody said.
