Smoke Free for ME, and that does not mean free butts. I get physically ill from inhaling second hand smoke, and others do too. We have the right to arrive at the classroom without having to breathe second-had smoke in the air and be ill while trying to learn.

When is the last time anyone was subjected to a smokey classroom? It’s been years.

You are correct, I was talking about walking through the outdoor areas where the smokers hang out, usually on the walking paths and near the doors. The smoke hangs in the air.

Those clouds are disgusting! It seems every office/business here on Boston’s downtown streets has one at their doors.
I do think that banning it while in their cars is draconian and that banning reasonably designated areas is bordering on it. It’s not like when I grew up and seemingly everyone smoked. You couldn’t escape the ashtrays even in hospitals and doctor’s offices.

I think the USM policy is a wise move and I hope the protest fails. However, enforcement will be a problem as the orono campus has found out. Smoking on campus still goes on, including attendees at hockey games, although at a reduced rate.

Welcome to communist Russia………Hey Hitler…….remember, Big brother is watching you…….

    • Nothing similar at all…….

      Hitler ruled Germamy

  • I hope the protest fails

Enrole in the university of Maine system and you can’t smoke on campus. Join the Maine state prison system and smoke all you want.

      Sad…..but true

“Creating a healthier environment for students, faculty, staff and visitors is the reason behind it,”

So… just how is someone smoking in their car harming all those? Reasonable restrictions are fine, but these are draconian. Catching an occasional wiff of it isn’t going to hurt anyone. It’s being subjected to a smokey bar atmosphere that’s harmful.

Thank you for your observations “Dr. CE” even though they’re erroneous.

And here I thought you often gave thoughtful arguments
in your comments/replies. That was not your best effort. If all you can add is”oh ya?”, then don’t bother…

Has there ever been a winning lawsuit on secondhand smoke?

      • County Escapee

        Not that I’m aware of
